Jay Leno Quote

With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance? – Jay Leno

Temporal Loops

if - it creates a condition, precedes a conditional statement; however, the master can do far more with an if statement. Some Project Manager says, "Hey! We need a blafgartfee document! Bubba, could you get that done for us?" To which Bubba responds, "I got no idea what that looks like. If you send me an example or a template, I'll get it done." See, the creation of a condition ... "you must send me an example or template" before Bubba will do anything. Three weeks later, some some Project Managers says, "Hey, I have you down to provide the blafgartfee document by EOD today. How is it going?" Bubba,...

Those Who Would Raise Children

Many years back, in the early 1990’s, Tracey and I got married. We were young and with our lives before us we spent many hours dreaming what our lives would ultimately be. I was given to poetry and had recently read Laughter in the Walls by Bob Benson. It captured so well our own particular dreams at the time that I copied it down and made some ever so slight changes to accommodate our own lives. I utterly forgot about, but Tracey hid it away safely in an album with other keepsakes, and this morning my daughter Samantha found it, read it, and brought it to my attention. I am amazed to realize,...

Updated Doctrinal Triage Part 1

Last week I posted Approach to Doctrinal Triage - Part 1 and that generated some exceedingly good conversations with a number of people. There were some excellent questions asked that I had not properly addressed, and I so I updated the post to address these questions. Here’s a quick list of things added/changed: New Section Why are We Talking About It? - I added this section because a number of people asked why. Removed Priorities Hierarchical Diagram - The Venn Diagram communicates far more. Added Priorities Venn Diagram - Further clarification, I believe the VENN diagram ultimately does a far better...

Approach to Doctrinal Triage – Part 1

Calvary

Overview Bubba tends to be of an extremely analytical and logical nature; as such, he is drawn to systems, frameworks, and workflows in understanding and visualizing concepts. While most everyone appreciates a diagram or picture to help them understand a concept, there aren’t as many (though you are likely one if you are reading this) who are truly attracted to a systematic approach of frameworks and workflows. A long way of saying that this might not be for you, but I find it helps me towards greater clarity in analysis and understanding. First, we will acquire a framework for understanding...

Happy Birthday Me!

Thursday, January 7th 2010, I will be celebrating my 39th birthday. I like to celebrate anything and everything and in particular I want to celebrate the fact that, regardless of what we all thought would happen, I’ve survived this long! To that end, we will be having a bit of a party on Thursday night, here at the house (Contact me if you need directions)! If you can’t make it to Lowell, NC … feel free to Twitter, Facebook, or call in to join the fun. People should eat healthy before they arrive, as we intend to have only the most sugary snacks and the sweetest of nectar for your enjoyment!...

The Marks of a Christian

Our scripture today is meant to help us scrutinize our own lives and discern the degree to which we conform to Christ’s example and standard. Before we go into the text, I admonish you to resist the significant temptation to skip over applying this text to yourself and immediately begin judging others by the standard it sets. That act, in and of itself is counter to what we are teaching here. So then, what is it that we are teaching here? What is the point of our review of these twelve verses? Quite simply to review what Paul defined a Christian as. Now, there are a number of layers to defining...

EVE: Training Cynosural Pilots

Overview If you play EVE long enough, eventually someone is going to ask  that you light a Cyno (Cynosural Beacon) for them to jump to. If you are in a Corporation that is heavy with Capitol ships, there tends to be a constant need to have someone jumping somewhere and this means the Cyno Pilots need to be spread out all over the Universe. To this end, most people will train a Cynosural Field Theory on a couple of alternate characters, and then park those characters in systems (typically a logistical route) that tend toward requiring a regular Cyno’s to be lit. I found some interesting write-ups...

New Year Resolutions

Happy New Year! Out with the old and in with the new. I particularly find the practice of making New Year Resolutions interesting. It is commonly looked at as a frivolous and fruitless exercise. Every year, people all around the globe “resolve” to do, or not do some action … and then begin waiting for the time when they lose their “resolve”, break the resolution, and can get on with their lives in much the same way they did last year. How rare is the individual that commits to a resolution and then doggedly pursues it through trials and tribulation? Yet this is precisely what we as Christians...
